Siobhán’s interest in photography books was developed whilst studying for her degree in Photographic Arts at the University of Westminster. During her studies, she presented a number of her projects in book format – including ‘Routemaster’; ‘Alma Mater’; and her final-year project, ‘Grand Hotel’, a photographic journey through the empty interior of what was then known as the Midland Grand Hotel at St Pancras railway station in central London.

Since then, SDD has published two books with Dewi Lewis Publishing, managing the production of each. SDD’s responsibility on both occasions was to develop and lead the design and production, including the budget. In this work, Siobhán works closely with her team of long-term writers, editors and designers.

 

In addition to published work, SDD has created a number of individual photographic albums for clients. The team is currently designing a one-off book for a client who has refurbished an Arts and Crafts house in Putney, southwest London, converting it back to residential use. SDD’s proposal involves the inclusion of historic documents on the house and its surrounding neighbourhood. The book will be hand printed and bound. SDD will work closely with a skilled bookbinder to develop the materials and method of binding. Siobhán declares this to be ‘an exciting prospect to create a fully handmade book!’
