City of London Freemen’s Main House

Siobhán has been commissioned by Hawkins Brown Architects to document the renovation of this Grade II* listed mansion refurbishment located within the grounds of the City of London Freemans’s school in Ashstead, Surrey.

Her brief is to capture the history of the building, built in 1790 by Thomas Wyatt, as layers are stripped back during the preparation for the new design, revealing original details. She will record both the reconstruction and the people working on-site to realise the scheme as it progresses to completion.

The main house, Georgian in style, has seen a series of developments throughout its history. The modernisation is to allow the house to thrive into a sixth form centre. The scheme creates facilities for Sixth Form study by providing a variety of spaces: Harkness Rooms, quiet study areas, a formal library and project rooms complement flexible teaching spaces.

This photography documentation is on-going. Estimated completion date is Summer 2021.
