University of Westminister – The New Spaces

This series documents the architectural changes and building works in the Hawkins\\Brown redevelopment of the university’s Harrow Campus. The exhibition curator, Michael Maziere, commented of the work, ‘Doran’s closely observed and delicately framed images sit at the juncture of architecture and art – they reveal the curious spatial metamorphosis of a world in transition’.

Hawkins\\Brown’s design adds an impressive contemporary feel to a campus that was in need of revitalising. At a time of dramatic changes in funding for higher education, this redevelopment is a very relevant model for the use of limited funds to link existing buildings with new spaces and create effective connections for their users.

The ‘New Spaces’ exhibition was shown at the university’s London Gallery West from November 2012 to January 2013. However, the project – like the redevelopment itself – remains ongoing …
